Fighting Pain with Phytonutrients

The debate over modern diets is a smokescreen

So much of the debate centers around carbs, proteins, and fat. And while balancing this energy-providing triad is of crucial importance, it is only a starting point for a truly balanced diet. If you suffer with chronic back pain, then dietary balance is one of the best ways you can provide for your body on a daily basis. A plant-based diet that includes plenty of phytonutrients is a good option for anyone suffering with back pain.

At Holmes Chiropractic, we work with many of our patients to help them establish a balanced diet

We must begin by acknowledging the fact that your diet can actually be contributing to your back pain, especially if you eat inflammatory foods such as:

  • processed foods
  • fast foods
  • saturated fats
  • caffeine
  • alcohol
  • among many others.

If you find it difficult to choose foods that are not inflammatory, then we have a starting point. We can help simplify the decision making process by providing you with the education necessary to make better choices.

Making better dietary choices in support of your back

Choose anti-inflammatory ingredients: dark-colored fruits and veggies, foods rich in omega-3s like coldwater fish and flax and chia seeds are your ticket to a diet that fights rather than promotes inflammation. And it is still possible to get plenty of protein with this diet, despite what the conventional wisdom may say. Avocados, nuts, fish, seeds, beans, chicken, turkey- all are packed with protein.

It is time to use nutrition to your advantage, rather than allowing it to continue handicapping you. We are standing by to help you make the right dietary choices in support of a healthier back.
