Dr. Holmes adjusting a child's spine

Chiropractic for Kids

Why do we set such store by keeping up the health of our children’s teeth but not their musculoskeletal health? It is an interesting paradox when you consider that many spinal problems begin in childhood and intensify with age. As a child grows and learns to participate in the human experience, their spine begins its navigation through the daily wears and tears of life. A structure that is used for every movement and action should be maintained with regular check ups.

At Holmes Chiropractic, we support the body from the word go: beginning at a young age, our spines are subject to subluxation that can cause nerve interference and obstruct normal functioning. With age and growth of the human organism, more serious problems can present themselves. Scoliosis is a condition that can cause permanent disfigurement if not detected and addressed before the child’s primary growth spurt (between the ages of 12 and 16). Other conditions that respond well to chiropractic care are bed-wetting, colic, ear infections, constipation, asthma, sleep disturbance and a host of other problems.

A common misconception that parents hold on to when considering chiropractic for their children is that the treatment the child receives will be exactly the same as an adult’s treatment. This is not the case; chiropractic adjustments are tailored to the individual’s size, strength and spine. An infant or child’s back rarely has the same level of muscular tension as an adult’s, meaning that noticeable improvement can be made with more gentle adjustments.

Chiropractic is not a treatment for disease; rather, it is a treatment aimed at restoring the body’s natural healing power. Many childhood health problems can be eased or treated with the help of chiropractic care.
